Automate Git Hooks with AI

The Claude Hook Template Generator is a fast, entirely client-side utility that writes customized bash scripts to integrate Anthropic's Claude Code CLI directly into your Git workflow.

Supported Hooks

  • pre-commit: Analyzes your staged files (via git diff --cached) before they are committed locally. Great for catching syntax errors, console logs, or missing tests.
  • pre-push: Analyzes your outgoing commits against the remote branch. Ideal for deep architectural reviews before submitting a Pull Request.
  • commit-msg: Parses the commit message format and rewrites it to match Conventional Commits or your internal team guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this tool.

Where do I save the generated bash script? ▼

Save it in your repository under `.git/hooks/` and name the file based on the hook type (e.g., `pre-commit` or `pre-push`). Remove any `.sh` extensions.

Why does my hook say "Permission Denied"? ▼

Git hooks require execution permissions. Run `chmod +x .git/hooks/pre-commit` in your terminal to make the script executable.

Can I bypass the hook if Claude is taking too long? ▼

Yes. You can bypass any local Git hook by appending the `--no-verify` flag to your git command (e.g., `git commit -m "update" --no-verify`).
