What DPI is best for high-quality printing?

300 DPI is the professional standard for photo prints, magazines, marketing materials, and fine art. 150 DPI works for draft proofs and large-format prints viewed from a distance. 72 DPI is screen resolution only and produces blurry prints.

How do you calculate required pixel dimensions for a 10×8 inch photo at 300 DPI?

Multiply physical print size by DPI: Width = 10 × 300 = 3,000 px; Height = 8 × 300 = 2,400 px. The image needs to be at least 3000×2400 pixels for a sharp 10×8" print at 300 DPI.

What is the difference between DPI and PPI?

PPI (Pixels Per Inch) is a digital image property. DPI (Dots Per Inch) is the printer output resolution. When you send a 300 PPI image to a 300 DPI printer, each pixel maps to one ink dot, producing a sharp print. For web display, only PPI matters.

How many megapixels do I need to print an A4 poster at 300 DPI?

A4 paper is 8.27×11.69 inches. At 300 DPI: 2481×3508 pixels = 8.7 megapixels. So an 8+ MP camera sensor produces sufficient resolution for a full-size A4 print at 300 DPI.

What happens if I print an image at a lower DPI than 300?

At 200 DPI, most prints still look acceptable at normal viewing distance. At 150 DPI, you'll see some loss of fine detail in text and hair. Below 100 DPI, pixelation becomes visible to the naked eye at arm's length. The minimum acceptable threshold depends on viewing distance.
